Greer Antha Bell is strikingly beautiful woman of mixed race standing at 5'11". She's model thin with curves in all the right places. Her hair is silky and brown -- often bone straight -- with greenish brown eyes and full lips. She only wears the finest in clothing with perfect hair and makeup. She is viewed as extravagant at times, although she just enjoys showing off her riches. She has a fiery temperament and envisions life as nothing more than a game, which can be more of a hindrance than an asset. She, however, knows how to play the part of a demure woman and does so when the situation calls for it. Greer also knows when to use her assets to her advantage as well.
Greer was abandoned as a newborn baby. It's been assumed that her mother was either a rape victim or a prostitute. The latter is the more probable of the two. It is also assumed that her mother was black -- probably a former maidservant turned whore -- while her father was white. More than one affluent British man had given Greer money in her youth. She was born in August of 1849 and was found by a young nun outside of a Liverpool orphanage.
Father Bell raised the baby as his own and named her Antha Bell in honor of his grandmother. She was affectionately refereed to as "Annie" by anyone who knew her. At the age of 60, Father Bell passed away in his sleep. He left 10-year-old Antha in the care of his sister, Charlotte Black and her husband, a lawyer named Darcy Black. It was Charlotte who changed the girl's name to Greer although no one knows why this occurred.
Greer was rebaptised in a Catholic church in London and given the name Greer Antha Bell. By the age of 12, Greer had taken up drinking, often getting drunk with her adopted father. At the age of 13, she was raped by Darcy although she said nothing to anyone about the incident until she was much older. At 14, Greer began seducing men, using her maturing body to get men to give her anything she desired. It drove Charlotte mad -- literally -- to see the teenager destroy herself in this manner.
On Greer's sixteenth birthday, Charlotte was committed to a mental institution and Greer ran away from home. For the next six years, she became a whore to get the money she needed to travel the world. At 22, she traveled to Cairo, Egypt although she almost died enroute. Two years later, after marrying a wealthy British man living there, Greer was murdered by an unseen assailant.
When she awoke after her first mortal death, she found herself alone in a crude morgue of sorts. Surrounded by the stench of death, she realized where she was and let out a blood-curdling scream. A Watcher viewed these events while checking on his own Subject, although Greer didn't know she was being Watched as she scrambled about, trying to figure out what had happened to her. She found clothes and slipped out of the building unnoticed. Scared and cold in the winter chill, Greer used what little money she had on her to get a warm meal and a scarlet, hooded cape to keep herself warm.
Wearing the cape and using the hood to hide her face, she listened as merchants gossiped about her death. Piecing together to the gossip, she came to the startling revelation that her husband had paid a local mercenary to kill her. (She still doesn't know why he would do such a thing to her.) She slipped into a dark alley and concocted a plan of revenge. The fact that she was alive even after being stabbed fourteen times didn't sink in yet. It wouldn't sink in for awhile.
That cold December night, two days before Christmas, Greer scared her husband to death -- literally -- and took off with all the clothing, money and jewels she could carry. From that point on, she had decided to never fall in love again. She remained in Cairo, a shell of the woman she once was, for three and a half months before taking ship back to England.
In late April, word had reached Darcy and Charlotte Black about Greer's passing. Charlotte killed herself two days later. Greer, distraught, attended the funeral. She knew enough to keep her distance from the proceedings lest she scare the only family she had ever known half to death. It was while attending her adopted mother's funeral that Greer came to the realization that she had died herself and somehow she had been given the gift of life again.
Saddened by this revelation, she started to leave the cemetery when a strange sensation overwhelmed her. The feeling was so strong it caused her to faint. When she finally awakened, a handsome and strong-looking fair-haired man stood over her. He helped Greer to her feet and did his best to inform her of what she was and what she could be.
Fascinated by the idea of eternal life -- or something damn close -- and smitten by the man before her, Greer agreed to become his protégé. The man, Lionel Thomas, took the new Immortal to a secluded cottage in the English countryside where he taught her to protect herself while Lionel's loyal servant, Cecila, taught Greer to cook, clean and do other "womanly chores". During this time the Immortal used a broadsword. She continued to use it for several years until she purchased her current sword in 1992.
Lionel would often take Greer to London to attend balls and dinner parties. Despite the color of her skin, she fit in perfectly with the aristocracy of England. After five years, she tired of being so submissive in public while learning to be aggressive and self-confident out in the countryside where no one could see her. She didn't understand the purpose of having the ability to play both sides like Lionel did. She often went on the rampage to let Lionel know that she would have her way.
Finally, Lionel told her every aspect of her life as an Immortal, including the fact that she would never be able to bear a child of her own. Crushed by this revelation, Greer went on yet another rampage. She destroyed the hotel suite she shared with her mentor during one of their trips to London. Lionel did all that he could to set the woman at ease, including a proposal of marriage. Stunned, she accepted his proposal, although she was still upset, and attended another ball that evening. The next day, Lionel let her pick out her engagement ring and wedding band, which calmed her greatly.
In 1880, Lionel Thomas and Greer Monroe wed in a exquisite Catholic church in London. The wedding was a huge ordeal. All of the British aristocracy attended, though many whispered that "the girl must be pregnant" or "poor Mr. Thomas" wouldn't have married a "colored" woman. Ignoring the gossip, Greer enjoyed the extravagant wedding and reception. Finally, she was happy with the way her life had turned out and she was in love. Lionel and Greer moved to Ireland a year later. There they took in two children of mixed race. A boy, age eight, and a girl, age five, became their children through the most legal of channels. The youngest, the girl whom they had named Bella, died three years later while the family was on vacation in Spain. In 1886, the older child, the boy whom they had named Sean, was flung from his horse and crippled. By 1888, Sean -- then thirteen -- had become ill and died.
Greer went mad -- almost literally -- after losing both children and attempted to end her own life. Lionel, who didn't want to leave his wife, went to London at her urging to attend to his business in the fall of 1890. During this time, Greer took to drinking and often finished off a bottle of wine and two bottles of sherry by six every evening. Word got to her three months after her husband had left that Lionel Thomas was dead. Greer waited for two years in their home outside of Dublin home before realizing Lionel had lost his head and wouldn't be returning to her.
She drank herself to death in that home later that year. When she revived, Greer was relieved to hear no one had seen her lying dead in her bed. Without a second thought, she sold their homes in Ireland and England for top dollar, keeping only a few items for herself. She pocketed the money from the sales and Lionel's life insurance. Still grieving for her husband and children, Greer moved to the Spanish countryside. In 1894, when she finally went into the city, she met a young couple known only as Enrico and Martinique. From them Greer learned how to lie, cheat and steal her way through life.
By 1909, Greer had amassed a rather large fortune by stealing it. She had more gold, silver and jewels than she knew what to do with and began generously giving to a small Catholic church where she attended mass. She was now an accomplished thief and con artist as well as a shrewd business woman. She had learned to speak French, Spanish and Italian fluently and was known to have "many talents". Seducing men out of their fortunes became he favorite game, although Greer also enjoyed the thrill of robbing museums, galleries and the homes of the wealthy. This continued as the Immortal beauty traveled Europe in search of greater challenges.
By 1920, she made her way to the States, although she preferred Puerto Rico to any state in the union. She was, however, fond of New York. During the late 1920s, she made Manhattan her new home. She opened a speakeasy and sold illegal liquior without getting caught. (She had many of police officers on her bankroll, which made it easy for Greer's establishment to be kept off the list of possible speakeasies in the area.) She took her first head in New York as well.
Greer realized how blessed she had been to have steered clear of other Immortals for so many years and was frightened after killing another of her kind for the first time. After overcoming the shock of receiving her first Quickening, Greer saw this as a new and exciting challenge. Keeping her head was a game to her now and it was one she was (and still is) determined to never lose.
In the late 1950s, Greer moved to New Orleans, fitting in with the bawdy women she met. She opened a brothel, making sure to make it all seem as legal as possible and took to robbing the rich men of Louisiana. She spent 20 years, popping in and out before people realized she hadn't aged, in the Big Easy. She took enough heads to make her strong enough to beat most Immortals she met and challenged. Greer took to solitude for six years. During this time she did a lot of reading and writing -- mostly poetry -- as well as working out and brushing up on her sword fighting.
In 1984, she left the solace and comfort of her Canadian home and headed for Los Angeles. She lived there for four years, claiming to be Greer Bell's granddaughter, Antha Marie, and living off the money she had amassed during her long life. In 1989, Greer took to robbing and conning Wall Street's finest while living it up in New York City. She went back to Europe in 1994, living in Paris, France. She was hunted and challenged by a 2500-year-old Immortal who called himself Cortland. Greer wouldn't fight him until he told her that he had killed Lionel all those years ago. Anger overwhelmed her and she nearly died. Moments before Cortland was going to take her head, a shot rang out.
Greer was surprised but took advantage of the situation, taking the Immortals head. As she recovered from the Quickening, a woman watched and waited. The woman was Cortland's lover and Watcher, Jennifer Curfman. Jennifer promised to never tell anyone that Greer hadn't won the fight fairly, but the fact that she hadn't bugged Greer. She would never know if she was good enough to defeat Cortland alone. Throughout the next decade, Greer traveled a lot and usually with a different man going on each new trip. She never seemed to favor any of them more than the last. She enjoyed her time with each one equally and never spoke ill of any of her lovers.
Greer met her own Watcher in 2006. He spoke highly of her kindness and beauty. She, however, never knew he was her Watcher. She floated in and out of various cities during the next ten years. In 2016, she settled in a small town in Australia. She lived there fairly peacefully, only encountering a few Immortals One such meeting brought Greer her first Immortal friend since Lionel Thomas. The Immortal was Rowan Michaels. She was a powerfully built but graceful woman with great beauty. Rowan filled Greer in on some of the most infamous and just plain famous of their kind. Greer realized that all of the time she spent alone could have been spent getting to know other Immortals and learning from them. Greer spent five years with Rowan.
In 2020, Rowan was killed by Hunters and Greer, who was nearest to her friend when Rowan was beheaded, received her friend's Quickening. Greer was irate and killed all those responsible for her friend's death with wild abandon. In 2023, she traveled to Hawaii, actually finding inner peace there. She remained there, hiding from Hunters, Watchers and Immortals, until she realized Lionel and Rowan would have been disappointed with her childish behavior. In 2025, she moved to New Orleans where she remains. She, however, is interested in meeting the Immortals Rowan told her about: Methos, Amanda, Duncan MacLeod . . .
