Jana stands at approximately 5' 3" and weighs 110 lbs. She is much stronger than she looks because her training keeps her battle-ready. She has brown eyes and brown hair. She has a sweet, gentle personality and is quite friendly. Her biggest weakness seems to be men. The only enemy Jana has ever had is Methos, but her animosity towards him has faded. She, however, rarely talks about her distant past. It's something she'd rather forget.
Jana grew up with the family that found her and spent much of her youth learning how to be a good wife. She learned well but still made sure to learn how to defend herself as well. Her parents soon learned that their daughter refused to be forced into an arranged marriage. She wanted to fall in love and marry for love. After persuading her parents, they let her move out on her own although such a move wouldn't normally be tolerated.
Mere days after Jana's 25th birthday, an unruly gang sacked her village. One of the men, Stevros, killed her mother and brothers. Then he and several of the others raped and killed her sisters. Another of the gang, Methos, killed her father for Stevros's approval and took her prisoner. Jana spent three weeks being abused, raped and tortured by Stevros and his men (except Methos). Finally, Stevros killed her, running her through with his sword as Methos, who developed a soft spot for the young woman, watched.
Methos did all he could to make Jana's stay with the gang a decently pleasant one. He fell in love with her and chose to become her teacher. He explained Immortality and the Game to young Jana and trained her as best as he could when Stevros wasn't around. Jana worked hard at her studies, learning to track and learning herb lore and weapon skills. Soon she found herself in love with Methos. Then one night, he allowed Stevros pass her around to all the men at their camp. Before dawn, Jana ran, hatred overwhelming her very being. She had been their slave and plaything for six, long years by then.
She spent the next 50 years on a rampage. The violence she was subjected to during her stay with Stevros and his men left her cold and distant. She felt no respect for mortals and even less for other Immortals. She murdered and tortured both mortals and Immortals alike during those 100 years. The scared, lonely girl was gone, replaced by a dangerous young woman. Jana had developed a bloodlust that would take centuries to subside completely. Finally circa 419 B.C., she found peace within herself. Enough to make the killing stop. Enough to drive her to seclusion for the next century.
Jana spent all of the 100 years travelling. She, however, never backed down from a fight. Ever. She headed to the Middle East and Asia before returning to Europe. She worked in various temples, learning about the religions of the world as she traveled. Over time, Jana developed her own moral code and religious beliefs. However, she still felt small inklings of bloodlust left in her.
She turned her attention to matters of the heart circa 320 B.C. She lost her heart to a man named Jason. The couple married only two months after meeting. Jana knew then that the only thing that really mattered to her was the love of a good man. With that, she felt she could do anything. Including overcoming her desire to kill. Jason made sure Jana had nothing but the best. He treated her like a queen until his untimely death just four years into their marriage. His death caused her to snap and she began killing again.
Circa 305 B.C., Jana received a Dark Quickening. It caused her to kill and torture more people than she cares to remember. It's a time she's still attempting to block out of her mind. Every thing she did during that time is something she still regrets. It wasn't until approximately 200 years later that Jana returned to her calm and peaceful state of mind. She killed an Immortal holy man circa 100 B.C. and with his Quickening, Jana found peace once again. It was then that she also learned to forgive herself for all the evil she had done. Now Jana set out to make everything right, to make up for all she had done.
She traveled every known place in the world, helping others find inner peace. She worked as a healer and adviser to several emperors during these times. Jana again found love. The man was an Immortal named Malik. He taught her more about sword play, helping her in the Game Immortals play. The pair spent centuries in each other's company, travelling and learning about themselves and others. Jana had never known such happiness. Then, it was taken away from her. Stevros found her and killed Malik before her eyes. Jana, however, didn't snap. She let Stevros go, knowing one day he would get what he deserved. She had learned that revenge wouldn't make the pain go away.
Again, Jana went into hiding. She spent much of her time on holy ground, honing her skills as both a healer and a fighter until she became quite the expert in both fields. Then circa 22 A.D., Jana ventured back out into the world. She found herself rediscovering places she once thought she knew. In all the time she had spent in hiding, the world had changed a great deal. Over time, she found love numerous times with numerous men. Jana had discovered the pleasure she could get from one-night stands with strangers. No attachment necessary.
Although she found great amounts of pleasure in the company of strangers, Jana had yet to find someone she could spend more than a week with. The one thing she desired most -- a long, loving relationship -- was the one thing that eluded her the most. Jana soon turned to finding friends among the mortals she spent her days with. One such mortal friend, Deborah, also taught Jana the pleasure the Immortal could receive with a female partner. Jana soon found herself with sexual partners of either sex, but still, she had no fulfilling relationships.
Centuries passed before Jana was able to develop a truly fulfilling relationship. She fell for a woman named Ceila when she returned to Eire. The two kept their relationship a secret for over a decade. Then in 44 A.D., Ceila died of an illness Jana wasn't able to heal. Although heartbroken, she knew she could love again thanks to Ceila. Jana again traveled all of the known world, finding inner peace and love in various locales. She married once again in 55 A.D. The man was an Immortal named Anton. The pair were madly in love and remained together until he was killed by another Immortal. Jana, fearing she was next, ran to holy ground. She was still afraid to fight. She didn't want to reawaken her bloodlust after seeing all the world had to offer her.
In 70 A.D., Jana was challenged by the Immortal who had killed Anton. She won but suffered from a Dark Quickening. This time she had friends who helped her regain her humanity. They locked her in a room with no way out. Jana died many times before they released her from the room. She learned the only way she was able to overcome the power of the Dark Quickening was if she died a mortal death. Somehow it brought her clarity and allowed her the time to mediate and find her center. Somehow dying a mortal death helped her release the negativity of the Dark Quickening.
Only once more during the next two centuries did Jana experience another Dark Quickening. However, she was able to overcome it. Never again did she succumb to the feelings of bloodlust brought on by the power of a Quickening. The centuries after passed with blinding speed. The years melted into one another. Each seemed to be the same as the last. Mortal friends and enemies died. Immortal friends and enemies died. Lovers came and went. Still Jana stood, alive and well. It wasn't until 573 that Jana experienced anything of importance.
She found herself in Japan, learning from a great martial arts master. Soon she found herself in love with the older man. Jana couldn't explain it and never told him about it. Heartbroken after his death, she moved to Egypt in 580. There she heard about a man who rose from the dead. Several decades later, she heard about it happening again. This time it was a woman from a village near where Jana was staying. She tried to find the woman but was unsuccessful. She stayed until the Arabs invaded in 660. Then she headed for Rome.
In Rome, Jana became a slave. It wasn't a life she enjoyed, but it was one she tolerated. After 20 years of servitude to various families, Jana left the Roman Empire in search of love and adventure. During a trip to England in 830, she learned to read, write and speak English. In 845, Jana found her first student. The pressure of teaching another overwhelmed, but she was able to teach the young man everything she knew. The two remained together for 50 years. Then he decided to head out on his own. Jana, however, moved to India in 910 to recuperate. After 200 years in India, she moved to France in 1122. It didn't take long for her to learn French. In 1131, she traveled to Spain and learned several styles of fencing from various mortal teachers. Jana chose to remain in Spain for 25 years. She finally had the opportunity to return to Ireland in 1156.
In 1223, she returned to France, finding love yet again with an Immortal named Hugh Gerard. The two married in 1229 and remained together for 50 years before tiring of each other's company. Jana was surprised by the venom in Hugh's words when they parted. She had never been so heartbroken in her life. She turned to drinking and spent the next century in a haze. In 1379, Jana spent a century traveling in the Middle East and Asia before returning to Europe. She worked yet again in churches and temples and again used her skills as a healer.
In 1512, Jana was in Scotland. She stayed with the Clan MacLeod for a decade. In 1524, Jana returned to England. She spent a decade travelling with gypsies. They had a mutual respect for each other's beliefs. In 1536, she traveled South America with a young doctor. Together they tried to help the natives but instead helped bring new diseases to the area. She returned to India in 1554. It became a place she loved returning to as it helped her center herself. She learned the art of mediation from several holy men in the area. Even to this day, Jana mediates on a regular basis. In the mid-1600s, she traveled to and through North America. Her life was a peaceful one without much excitement or adventure. She had a few love affairs during her stay in North America but soon decided to take a long, slow trip around the known world.
She returned to North America in the late 1800s. She worked in various places during that time and spent much of her time in the state of California (after it became a state). Jana met Amanda during that time although the two never got along. Jana didn't understand the other Immortal's obsession with stealing and gambling. It was during this time that Jana also met Duncan MacLeod. She found herself smitten by the man but never shared it with him. Instead she found herself in the arms of a mortal named Christopher Michaels.
She spent a mere five years with David before leaving him. It was the first time Jana left a lover. In all her life she had always remained with those she loved until their deaths. Now she found the courage to leave before the other died. Time rushed by and come 1912, Jana found herself in the midst of an abusive relationship. The man, Christian Carpenter, became her husband and soon after began beating her. Blinded by her love for Christian, she allowed the beating to continue until a friend helped her realize the err of her ways. Jana, however, was killed by Christian as she tried to leave.
Changing her name to Jane Carpenter, she fled to Canada upon reawakening. Glad to be alive, she spent several years living life to the fullest. In 1924, she returned to the United States. She opened a respectable club that became the front for a ring of rum runners during Prohibition. Although it wasn't something she would have normally done, Jana found the idea of doing something illegal exciting. Soon she dabbled in thievery, realizing what Amanda found so exhilarating from this life of crime. Still, Jana was a good girl at heart.
In the mid-1930s, Jana saw Methos again. It reawakened all the feelings of weakness she had felt during the time before and after her first, mortal death. She stalked him for awhile, never catching her prey and never wanting to catch him. Several years later, she found love -- or something akin to love -- with a man named Jonas Greco. "Jane Carpenter" married Jonas after four months of courtship. However, the relationship was a doomed one.
In six months, the two were divorced. Jana, then known as Jane Greco, moved to Germany. She stayed there for a short time before moving back to her homeland -- Ireland -- in 1947. She remained in there for a decade, honing her skills yet again. In 1960, Jana returned to the States. She found herself drawn back. She traveled the U.S. through the 1960s, moving from place to place and having hundreds of meaningless trysts.
In 1974, Jana locked herself away in a bookstore (in San Francisco) she had purchased from the friend of one of her former lovers. She closed down the store and read all the books she could get her hands on, particularly the older manuscripts and history books. In 1985, she reopened the bookstore, selling both new and used books there. It's a business she still owns. Throughout the late 1980s, Jana spent her time in several major cities. Her favorites by far are San Francisco, Seacouver and New York.
The 1990s brought Jana to Paris, France. She saw Duncan MacLeod and his friend, Richard Ryan quite a bit -- in passing. She also saw much of Methos during that time. She found she still harbored feelings for him -- feelings of profound love. Early in the year 2000, Jana changed her name to Jana Haliburton. She has continued to use that name ever since.
Jana found out about the Watcher's Organization in 2005 and considered joining. She, however, chose to keep her distance from the secret organization. She instead enrolled in college. She attended Oxford University in England where she majored in archeology. She graduated in 2014.
In 2021, Jana moved to Seacouver for a few years, There she opened several profitable businesses. One of which was a bookstore. She also began training at a local dojo. She soon found herself able to beat her instructor, a 5th degree black belt. Jana moved to New York in 2024 but soon left for Paris. She spent two years there before finding herself back in Seacouver.
Now she doesn't know what to do with herself. Jana's beginning to consider becoming a nun just for a change of scenery, although keeping a vow of celibacy would be more than difficult for the Immortal. Only time will tell where she chooses to go and what she chooses to do with her life. Only time will tell how long she'll be able to keep her head.
