Mistal is a 6'1" handsome man with a serious attitude but also a flamboyant and charismatic personality. He only smiles when his flamboyance and charisma surge through him. He is very intriguing, curious and suspicious of strangers. Once in awhile, it's not easy to get along with Mistal because of his sarcasm, but when he's around women, he doesn't let his sarcasm affect him. He's even been considered a womanizer at times.
Born to a rich family in Dublin, Ireland, Mistal journeyed the world. When he was three years old, civil war erupted in Dublin and his mother and father traveled to America. They moved to a colony called Virginia, trying to start a new life. At barely three years old, he lost his parents during a senseless act of violence to a gang called the "Death Bringers". His Aunt Muara Kelly looked after him until he was fourteen. When he reached 15, Mistal traveled to America to find the gang responsible for his parents' deaths. He found them, but in an explosive encounter, he and the gang are killed. When the dust settled after the blaze, he discovers that he didn't die and he is Immortal. As he headed back to his homeland, Mistal finds his parents' property seized and their land sold by his aunt.
Mistal found himself mentally ill at the site and returned to America in 1588. There he lived in Virginia where he met and lived with an English lawyer, Matthew Collington. Matthew knew about what happened to Mistal in the past and offered to train Mistal in the martial arts. After his training, Mistal journeyed to France where he came across a beautiful and talented swordsman, Andrea Michel. Andrea taught Mistal what it meant to follow the path of the warrior and the way of the sword. Mistal eventually fell in love with Andrea during his training and they later travel together.
While traveling through Korea, Andrea and Mistal find a political assassin, Do Sung Lee. Lee later killed Andrea in cold blood. Swearing revenge, Mistal tracked Lee down for years. As he followed Lee's trail, he noticed that Lee was headed for Dublin where Mistal's ex-wife, Jennifer, remained. Jennifer had since become the president's wife and Mistal tried to convince her to leave the country. When she refused, Lee struck and killed Jennifer and almost killed the president. Lee disappeared after the assassination attempt. It was these two deaths, Jennifer's and Andrea's, in his life that changed Mistal forever.

On May 23, 1776, he returned to the States and changed his name to Shawn Rosewood, a lawyer. Following the Revolutionary War, Mistal crossed paths with Lee again. He didn't let the assassin escape this time and in an act of sheer revenge, he killed the assassin that killed two of Mistal's loved ones. In September, Mistal practiced law at the Virginia School of Law. After receiving his degree, he retired from law and started his own business. After years of business (1777-1810), he closed down and headed out again. This time he goes back to Ireland. While in Ireland, Mistal becomes a thief for the quot;Thieves' Guild". His job is basically a pickpocket stealing jewelry. He soon comes across another thief named Shawna Michaelson. She tells him that he's "too pure of heart to be in a life of crime". Shawna and Mistal stay with each other for four years. She never suspected that he was Immortal nor he of her. They just talked about each other's differences and continued on with their lives. After living with Shawna, the two became close friends and promised to never lose touch with one another. Shortly thereafter, the two part ways.
After leaving Ireland, Mistal moved to England and changed his name to Jack Masters, an artist. He lived there until 1912. While aboard the Titanic, he met Claudia, the daughter of a rich family in England. While on the ship, Mistal drew what he saw around him. As he prepared to leave for his quarters in third class, he bumped into Claudia and Mistal's sketchbook opened, showing his detailed drawings.
Mistal and Claudia are two of seven survivors of the sinking and the two made a life for themselves in New York where they eventually marry. Mistal stayed with Claudia until 1920 when a drug overdose claimed her life. Mistal remained in New York for one year before settling in California. While there, he met a businessman; a mortal named Clifton Greensmith. Unknown to Mistal, Clifton was a gangster wanted for second-degree murder. Mistal quickly killed Clifton and remained in California before continuing to travel the world.
In 1972, he left California and moved to Scotland where he met two mortals, Angelius and Anita. They're husband and wife as well as business partners. When Mistal suspected the couple were selling illegal imports and trading illegal exports, he needed to find out why. When they denied it, he killed them before they had him killed. After their deaths, Mistal changed his name to Richard McDaggerson, a college calculus teacher. Following his tenure as a college professor, he remained in Scotland until 1989.
In 1991, he moved to San Diego, California and worked as a night club owner. He changed his name one last time to Nick McDargonside. He met and exotic dancer named Anna Mills and the two quickly fell in love. In their time together, Mistal never revealed his Immortality to her. She eventually got suspicious and went to the police to look up any records on Nick McDargonside. When she did, she didn't find anything. She confronted Mistal and they argued bitterly over him not discussing his Immortality. After they discuss it, she left him.
Mistal moved to New Orleans where he lived as a bum -- broke and hidden in the shadows. He briefly met an Immortal woman, Davena MacRae. He and she simply looked at one another and Mistal went the opposite direction, enraged. He continued his life as a bum until 1992. He then moved to Seacouver, Washington and met a mortal woman, Tessa Noel. Mistal first met Tessa while buying a figurine at MacLeod & Noel Antiques. It was also here that he met Immortal Duncan MacLeod. Mistal became a frequent customer of the antique store. Following Tessa's death, Mistal moved to an apartment across the street from the antique shop.
In 1995, Mistal opened a martial arts studio and met up once again with Anna. She introduced him to Armand, her husband. The reunion was bitter and Mistal ignored her for the time she stayed in Washington. She begged forgiveness for looking up Mistal's records and leaving him, but he didn't forgive her. A fight ensued between Mistal and Armand and Mistal won though he was scarred with a slash on his right cheek. The wound remained with him forever. For years, he remained in solitude, continuously wandering the world.
In 2002, Mistal returned to Washington and visited Tessa's grave. After leaving Washington, he visited his native Ireland, going to his parents' graves. "Why does everyone I love . . . everyone I care for . . . end up dead?" This question drifted through his mind for months and he left Ireland once again, saying he may or may not return. He later bought a house in California and once again met with Davena MacRae. The two eventually became friends and Mistal discussed his problem with her.
As of 2013, Mistal became a talent musician, playing soprano saxophone in a jazz band. He and his band, "The Dark Knights", played at various nightclubs and charity auctions. In 2020, he stepped down from the band when an Immortal woman, Jessica Kensington, called him in to unwanted challenges. Jessica was a high-rising thief. When Mistal captured her, she revealed the shocking truth that she was his sister. Mistal didn't believe her so she showed him a family tattoo placed on her arm. Mistal showed his tattoo as well, proving they were brother and sister. Mistal soon taught her what he has learned over the past 590 years.
